Over a dozen injured as picnic bus overturns near Shranz waterfall Five picnickers are said to be critical and have been referred to District Hospital Baramulla for advanced treatment.

Sopore June 22: Over a dozen passengers were injured after a bus carrying them on a picnic overturned near Shranz waterfall in Baba Reshi area of north Kashmir Baramulla district on Tuesday afternoon. Reports said that the bus bearing registration number JK05- 9752 was on its way from Kichhama Baramulla towards Shranzfall Baba Reshi when it met with the accident reportedly after the driver lost control over it. All the injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital. Five among the injured are said to be critical and have been referred to District Hospital Baramulla for advanced treatment. A police official also confirmed the accident and said the injured were evacuated immediately by police to a nearby hospital. He said that a case has been registered in this regard.

COVID19 Surge | 7 more Srinagar areas declared as containment zones

District Administration Srinagar has declared seven more areas in the summer capital as containment zones in view of the fresh detection of COVID19 positive cases. In separate orders issued by authorities, Parimpora, Zoonimar, Peerbagh, Gulab Bagh, Jawhar Nagar, Boatman Colony Bemina and Mehjoor Nagar have been declared as containment zones. The fresh orders states that in view of the detection of more than 20 and 30 cases respectively, the respective areas have been declared as containment zones. COVID19 containment zone is an area where coronavirus positive cases have been reported. As a part of strategy to break the chain of virus, the entry and exit from the containment area remains temporary restricted. J&K records highest-ever single-day surge of 3532 Corona cases with 30 deaths

Jammu and Kashmir recorded highest-ever single-day surge of 3532 covid-19 cases while as 30 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday.   Among the fresh cases, they said, 1172 were from Jammu Division and 2360 from Kashmir, taking the overall case tally to 176083. The active case tally soared to 28359—10660 in Jammu and 17699 in Kashmir Valley.   Providing the district wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported Srinagar 932, Baramulla 316, Budgam 160, Pulwama 110, Kupwara 206, Anantnag 239, Bandipora 50, Ganderbal 77, Kulgam 165, Shopian 105, Jammu 495, Udhampur 125, Rajouri 133, Doda 37, Kathua 95, Samba 82, Kishtwar 13, Poonch 42, Ramban 74 and Reasi 76.  Regarding the deaths, they said, 17 were from Jammu Division and 13 from Kashmir, taking the overall toll to 2283—889 in Jammu and 1394 in the Valley.  Among the victims include two women, aged 25-years and 27-years respectively. 108 new COVID-19 cases, one death in Ladakh

So far, 140 COVID deaths have been reported so far in the UT since outbreak of the pandemic. Ladakh union territory reported 108 more fresh positive cases of COVID-19 even as a patient also died of the disease in last 24 hours, officials said on Friday.  As per official figures confirming the development, 192 patients have recovered and from the disease and discharged.  With this, the total number of COVID-19 active cases in UT Ladakh has come down to 1597- 1482 in Leh and 115 in Kargil district.  So far, 140 COVID deaths have been reported so far in the UT since outbreak of the pandemic. 

Corona surge: Complete curfew to be imposed in 11 districts of J&K from tomorrow till May 3

The authorities today decided to impose curfew in eleven districts of Jammu and Kashmir to combat the rising Corona cases. Sources said that Corona curfew will be imposed in 11 districts from Thursday 7pm to Monday 7am. They said that the districts include Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Jammu, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur. They further said that detailed orders will be issued by the concerned deputy commissioners under Disaster Management Act, listing out the prohibitions as well as permissible activities.

Patients at the hospital have complained of unavailability of Oxygen cylinders on time, which the hospital administration say is ‘baseless’. Meanwhile, Department of Information and Public Relations Jammu & Kashmir (DIPR-J&K) on its official twitter handle claimed that the UT has an ‘ample supply of oxygen’ on April 28, 2021 Along with declaring that the UT has an ample supply of Oxygen, DIPR also claimed to have ‘substantial number of filled Oxygen cylinders’ on April 28, 2021 The oxygen plant at SMHS hospital according to the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Muhammad Aijaz was made operational in 96 hours on April 28, 2021.

Record 25 Corona deaths, 2135 cases reported in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir reported 2135 fresh covid-19 cases while as 25 more people succumbed to the virus, the highest so far, in the last 24 hours, officials said on Monday.   Among the fresh cases, 791 were from Jammu Division and 1344 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall toll 162890.  Providing district wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 632 cases, Baramulla 136, Budgam 133, Pulwama 26, Kupwara 81, Anantnag 93, Bandipora 53, Ganderbal 43, Kulgam 139, Shopian 8, Jammu 472, Udhampur 20, Rajouri 46, Doda 33, Kathua 33, Samba 13, Kishtwar 13, Poonch 22, Ramban 4, and Reasi 135.  Regarding the fresh deaths, 14 were from Jammu Division and 11 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total toll to 2172.  Moreover, they said, 1067 more COVID-19 patients have recovered— 478 from Jammu Division and 589 from Kashmir Valley. There are 20601 active cases—8488 in Jammu and 12113 Kashmir, they added. (GNS)

Night curfew duration increased by 2 hours in J&K

Amid surge in Corona cases, the government on Sunday increased duration of night curfew in Jammu and Kashmir by two hours.  “The State Executive Committee, in exercise of the powers conferred up on it under sec.24 of the Disaster Management Act,2005, hereby orders that night curfew timings within municipal/Urban local body limits of all districts of J&K shall be from 8 pm to 6 am instead of 10pm to 6am,” the government said. 

140 areas notified containment zones in Kashmir

Amid spike in COVID cases, the authorities have declared 140 areas as containment zones in Kashmir. An area is declared as containment or micro containment zone after it records infection cases in clusters, and to prevent the spread of virus the entry and exit points of these areas are sealed, an official said. Srinagar administration has notified 48 containment zones so far. These areas have a population close to 6000 souls. On Saturday authorities ordered closure of J&K Bank branch Qamarwari after nine of its staff members tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Followed by Srinagar, Kulgam district in Kashmir division has second highest containment zones. It has 20 containment zones having a population of 14486.  Kulgam district has also the highest fatality rate percentage in COVID cases. COVID-19 surge: Curfew announced in J&K from 8 pm tonight till Monday morning

There will be a complete COVID-19 curfew in entire Jammu and Kashmir from 8PM tonight till 6AM Monday, April 26, Office of the Lieutenant Governor , Manoj Sinha announced on Twitter.   All market, commercial institutions will remain closed, it said adding essential and emergency services will be allowed to function. "Essential and emergency services to be allowed. All market, commercial institutions will remain closed,” the LG ‘s office tweeted this afternoon. “Complete corona curfew to be observed in the Union Territory from 8PM, 24th April (Saturday) till 6AM, April 26 (Monday). India witnesses record 3,46,786 Corona cases, 2,624 deaths in a day

A record single-day rise of 3,46,786 coronavirus cases pushed India's tally of infection to 1,66,10,481, while active cases crossed the 25-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday. The death toll rose to 1,89,544 with a record 2,624 more fatalities in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed. With a steady increase, active cases in the country reached 25,52,940 and comprise 15.37 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 83.49 per cent. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease rose to 1,38,67,997, while the case fatality rate has dropped to 1.14 per cent, the data stated. India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 last year, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. Another spell of rain or snow in J & K

Weather remained dry in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Tuesday as the Meteorological (MeT) Department forecast another brief spell of rain and snow in the two union territories that will begin on Wednesday. “Today weather will be generally cloudy in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh with 50 per cent chances of brief shower in the evening at isolated to scattered places of J&K. “Scattered to widespread rain/thunderstorm and snowfall over higher reaches like Gulmarg, Zojila and on higher reaches of Leh-Manali highway is likely during April 21 and 22. Thereafter, mainly dry weather is expected till April end,” a statement of the MeT department said. Orchardists in the valley have expressed concern over rain and inclement weather during April as they fear this could damage this year’s fruit crop because apple and other fruit trees are in bloom this time.
